If it moves on the water and folks like to spend time on it during vacation, chances are Captain Bryan Klein has operated it. The Destin native, who remembers Destin before it had a grocery store, says he’s spent so much time on the water that being on a boat is like sitting in his living room. And he wants it to be that comfortable and easy for the folks who charter his pontoon boat.
“I’m just puttering around showing people a good time on a floating sofa,” he says.
Captain Bryan’s laidback approach to his charter trips translates into visitors getting the experience they want, exactly. He can take you into the Gulf of Mexico. He can show you Choctawhatchee Bay. You can spend the day at Crab Island or spend five minutes, cruising past and taking in the sights while on your way to a quieter destination. He knows the best spots for younger children to snorkel and the best spots to see marine life of all kinds.
Captain Bryan takes special joy in introducing children to their first dolphin sighting or watching them the first time they hold a hermit crab.
“I teach them,” he says. “It’s a lot of hands-on.”
This year marks his 44th in Destin and during those years, he’s acquired information on everything, including family-oriented activities that are affordable.
“It’s all up to them what they want to do,” he says. “There’s no planning required. Bring what you want to eat and drink. This place just never stops. There’s always fun things to do here.”
Payment is by personal check, cash and Venmo. Parking is included with the charter. The southern hospitality is offered at no charge, too.
