What is Crab Island?

Crab Island in Destin, Florida is the perfect combination of sun, sand, and sparkling emerald waters! Once just a tiny island on the south side of Choctawhatchee Bay, the sandbar known as “Crab Island” is now one of the most popular things to do in Destin for boaters, paddlers, and swimmers alike! Large enough for hundreds of boats, kayaks, and waverunners to anchor down and hang out, some of the area’s top events take place at the sandbar all spring and summer long!

Crab Island is one of our area’s top summertime destinations. It has been photographed and aired on national networks and shows such as HGTV and Good Morning America, published in various travel magazines, and featured in publications across the globe. I would venture to say that Crab Island is the main reason Boating Magazine named Destin one of the ‘Top 10 Places to Live and Boat’ in the United States in 2020.

Don’t miss Crab Island if you’re visiting the Destin area. It’s a giant sand bar where you can anchor your boat and have tons of fun. There are food and drink vendors zipping around on little inflatable rafts. It was Awesome.    ~ Janet Gibson

My first time to visit Crab Island! Rented a pontoon for 1/2 day! Absolutely loved it! My granddaughter & her friend had a great time doing the obstacle courses! Loved walking around on the island! Definitely recommend to all!    ~ Jennifer Riley

We always have a fantastic time at Crab Island! Kids and adults both have a blast in the gorgeous clear water. It’s changed a lot over the years with the addition of the bouncy things and several places for food and drinks.    ~ Mike Stephens
